98 2008/9/5 From Matsumoto to Omachi for Alpine Route
Peter Hocker
AUSTRALIA
I am staying overnight at Omachi on 25 November to start the Alpine Route to Toyama the next day. I will come by rail to Matsumoto. Can you tell me approximately how often trains run from Matsumoto to Omachi? Many thanks

Note of webmaster: Gidday Peter

Trains seem to run quite regularly, every hour or even half hour from early morning to 10ish at night.
Time table here;

http://grace.hyperdia.com/cgi-english/hyperWeb.cgi

Use SHINANOOMACHI and MATSUMOTO as search names.
Shinano is the old name for Nagano to differentiate it from many other Omachi stations It will cost you 650 yen if your not on a rail pass.

Let me know if you don't have any luck with that web page.

Good luck

Milton

Dear Friends and Advisers,

I am wanting to visit Mastumoto in Dec 2008 and was wondering if you can advise me which is better or how to go about.

I will be staying at Yamanouchi Town for 2 nights and would like to explore Mastumoto, is it easily accessible from where I stay? Also, I understand that there is a grape vineyard that is open till December, is it easy to go?

Many thanks for your help.

Note of webmaster: Hi Janet,
From Yamanouchi to Matsumoto, take a bus and/or Nagano Dentetsu to Nagano Station. Then, take a train (or highway bus) to Matsumoto (about 1 hour by express train, 1 hour 20 minutes by local train).
I think vineyards close starting from October or November.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy the trip in Yamanouchi and Matsumoto!
Andy

96 2008/9/2 Site Help
Ben
JAPAN
Hi Guys,

I just moved to Matsumoto myself and was asked to check this site out. I have some free time, so if you need any help at all, give me a shout

Note of webmaster: Hi there Ben

Welcome to town.

I'm sure you would be most welcome here if you have something to contribute.
I will make sure the project leader e-mails you if he hasn't already.

This is a City backed non commercial site except for a little advertising sponsorship.
If you have any special interests you want to do a write up on, we would love your contribution. As long as the goal is for the general assistance of foreigners visiting or living in Matsumoto.

I'll probably see you around?

Milton

Hi Milton,

Thank you for the swiftness of your response and for taking a look around. My husband reminded me that we have the contact info of Nakamura-san, the owner of The Bottom Dollar, so we will e-mail him. Yes hopefully my husband or myself (I'm an opera singer too, among other things) will be asked back here very soon - or heck, maybe we'll just take a vacation. I hear the cherry blossoms are gorgeous in April. Re gaigin: we didn't mind having some of them around, but we appreciated not having too many of them for a while - just kidding! (I'm half gaigin so what does that make me?!)

Thank you again. This is the best city info site I have ever seen. I rely on it for my Matsumoto fix. It really makes my day to virtually take a visit from NYC when it gets a little hectic in the Big Apple. We'll drop a line when we are coming back. Maybe you guys will have a suggestion for an excurision that's off the beaten track for us Matsumoto-philes. Until then.

Cheers - Tami

94 2008/8/27 Loved Matsumoto - Trying to find my Friend
Tami Swartz
UNITED STATES
Hello All,

I fell in love with Matsumoto. It was better than home My husband and I vistited there in August 2007 when he was working at the Saito Kinen Festival. Being half Japanese I got very close to my mother's roots. We immersed ourselves in the culture and the history and found it transforming. We also made some good friends and that connection is priceless. Needless to say, it was very hard for both of us to leave when the festival was over. We sincerely hope we can come back!

I am trying to find a friend that I made there. Her name is Fumiko Katayama (also goes by Mystie) and I last heard from her in October 2007. Her last known address was 1-33-21 Asama-Onsen, Matsumoto-city, 390-0303, Japan. It was called ViV studio. She also had a band called Ayer that performed at The Bottom Dollar. I know you guys don't really offer this as a service, but any help or suggestions as to how I could find her would be greatly appreciated. I am worried as the last e-mail I sent her bounced back yesterday.

Keep up the great work with this site! I found it an invaluable guide to my adventures in this great city.

Kind Regards - Tami Swartz

Note of webmaster: Hi Guys

I had a shot at the phone number you offered and Katayama san doesn't live there anymore

I think the number must have been recycled.
I aren't in the Music Scene here but I know a few folk here are aware of 'The Bottom Dollar'.
Hopefully one of them can trace a lead they have.

But I am tempted to say...
Come back and search yourself

We would love to have your type back here.
Those who appreciate and love a great place.

Tell your Husband he is sure to be able to find a Job here and enough Gaijin to keep him happy.

Come on over to enjoy the Good Life.

See Yah soon

Milton

93 2008/8/13 Ukiyo-E-Museum
Heinz Lohmann
TAIWAN
Matsumoto itself was a beautiful experience, especially the castele the Matsumoto Bonbon August 2nd, we happend to experience very unexpectedly.
The only real disappointment was the Ukiyo-E-Museum. It is more a museum shop with a very small exhibition. The shop itself is OK, and we bought some prints, but the number of works exhibited was really very disappointing. I think, the proportion between museum shop space and exhibition space should be more like 10% to 90 % or 5% to 95%. In the Ukiyo-E-Museum it is more like 50/50. There seems to be room for improvement.
Anywhere, I would like to come back to Matsumoto a second time, but I'm sure not to visit the museum a 2nd time.

Note of webmaster: Heinz,
Thank you for your comment. I understand your feeling, although I didn't feel such disappointment and I enjoyed great and famous Ukiyo-E works very much when I went there. I guess one cause of the proportion is that the museum is a private one (Mr. Sakai's collection). I will tell your opinion to the manager of the museum.
I hope that you will visit Matsumoto again.

92 2008/8/12 incorrect hotel description
frequent visitor to Matsumoto
UNITED STATES
In the Accommodation Directory - Downtown Hotel [sic] you have a listing for the Matsumoto Tokyu Inn. While the address/phone/fax details are correct, the description is obviously of the Toyoko Inn Matsumoto Ekimae Honmachi (Chuo 2-1-23, Tel:0263-36-1045, Fax: 0263-36-1046). The Tokyu Inn is not so new and is located closer to the station, across the street from the bus terminal.

Note of webmaster: Hello,
Thank you for pointing out our obvious mistake.
I updated the page.
We were confused by "Toyoko Inn" and "Tokyu Inn".
We apologize for any confusion or inconveniences we may have created.
Have a nice summer vacation season!

Milton and Andy,

90 2008/7/28 Japan people search web site
Bobby
UNITED STATES
Hi, I left you a message last week regarding locating a friend there in Matsumoto. Seems you were not able to find any result. Can you please tell me then if Japan has a people search web site in English that I could use for a fee. I really wanted to find him because one reason is that he will have his birthday this September and would like to surprise and greet him. Another reason is that I'll be traveling to the Philippines by the end of this year and would like to come and visit Matsumoto again if I could find him. Hoping for your response. Again, Thank you so much for your time.

Note of webmaster: Man its a bit of a hard one.

Was there any other info about this guy.
No one here seems to have heard of him. But if you knew a club he went to or something we could do a web search in Japanese or ring such a club. Sometimes you can find people on things like sports results board on club websites etc.
Did his parents have a business.
This really is not something we do here as we a mere volunteers that watch this site and share knowledge of the city and area for tourists and foreign residents.
Some times we go the extra mile a bit but it certainly is not our function.

Re people finding websites to find old school mates they are pretty private over here on networking sites etc. Safety first n all.

Also with no Kanji the name will help only a very little in a search.
Have you got his Kanji somewhere?

Cheers Milton

Hi, I looked in white pages of Matsumoto, but, couldn't find either "Kunio Abe" or "Abe" at 1-5-18 Shonai in them.

89 2008/7/24 How to locate a friend in Matsumoto City
Bobby Gavino

I've been to you beautiful city in 1997 to visit a good friend, but we lost contact. I have sent him a letter but it came back to me. I have tried searching in the internet for Matsumoto white pages but i got no result and its all in Japanese characters which I can't understand. Is there a way you could extend any help. Maybe if I give you his name, you can look for his address and telephone number for me in your white pages. His name is Kunio Abe and his last known address was 1-5-18 Shonai Matsumoto. I would greatly appreciate if could extend any information. I would like to visit and see him again. Thank you and I'm hoping you would find a result. You could send me an email or post your answer here in your web site.
