Established in 1920, located close to Matsumoto Castle
Sakuraya is a famous local unagi (eel) restaurant and has appeared in several guidebooks.
The restaurant has a long common history with the city of Matsumoto. Sakuraya’s founder, originally from Toyama Prefecture, began serving sushi and other Japanese dishes in Matsumoto as early as 1920.

In 1975, the current third owner made a popular new specialty, “chimaki,” a Japanese glutinous rice cake wrapped in a bamboo leaf.
The light Japanese-style interior
The interior design is simple and light. While you eat, you can admire traditional Japanese pottery collected by the Manager, Okami-san.
