70 2016/4/15 craft workshop to make temari ball
Shirley
JAPAN
Hello! An American friend will be visiting me in Matsumoto on May 10th and 11th. She would like to learn how to make a temari ball herself. Do you know of a place in Matsumoto or Azumino where she could do this? Thanks for your help!

Note of webmaster: Hi again, Shirley-san
She can experience it in the souvenir shop Takagi, in front of the castle, I suppose. See here.

69 2015/5/6 Squash courts in the Matsumoto area

Does anyone know where I can play squash in the Matsumoto or Azumino area? Thanks!

Note of webmaster: Shirley-san, long time no see!
Central Fitness Club near the Matsumoto Main Post Office is only one place which has squash courts (two courts). You have to have membership of the club (or you can play with a person who has membership).

68 2015/4/4 Volunteer Opportunities

JAPAN
Hello! I recently achieved a kind of life dream and moved to Matsumoto for work. I want to find ways to get involved, do you know of any sort of volunteer type things, or do you have any resources for clubs and circles in the area? I am not having so much luck. I know of M-Wing and such, but that is the extent.

Thank you so much! Sorry that this question is maybe a little out of your specialty.

Note of webmaster: Hi, welcome to Matsumoto. There are many sorts of volunteer circles and many of them need new members. I don't know what sort/area you are seeking and your Japanese skill. Matsumoto City has a list of citizen volunteer groups and their multicultural coexistence plaza in the 3rd floor of M-Wing (you may already know) can select the groups suitable for your needs.

Oscar left Japan several years ago, too bad he was a great guy and a good friend too...

Never had a bear problem around here in 20+ years poking around up in the hills, I'd take a stout walking stick over a can o' spray though any day. Stay on the beaten trail and keep your eyes peeled, that's all.

The wasps may be a bigger threat, step into an underground nest and kiss your you-know-what goodbye.

Once again, beaten trail within your experience level, and don't go alone.

Really beautiful up here, you'll love it.

S.

We have some wood-fired pottery kilns up here in Shiga-mura, if that's what you're after. If you're interested drop me a mail at scofab{at}yahoo{dot}com and we'll see if it could work out.

Scott

Note of webmaster: Thank you for your posting. I noticed your posting to Jenny Clarke.

Hi there,

Do you have the dates for next year's Ice Festival yet please?

Thanks!

Note of webmaster: Hi Susannah,
Probably it will be Jan 25 (Sat) - 26 (Sun), though it is not a final decision.
Digital Kakejiku project will also be held on 25 Saturday evening (and maybe Friday evening).
I asked an officer of Mastumoto City tourism section.
I will e-mail you in case the dates change.

63 2013/6/5 Help! Tsutaurushi in Matsumoto?
Lyn
JAPAN
Ummm weird one for you. Was just doing some gardening in an old overgrown yard at an old house close to the castle and think I may have run into some poison Ivy. I've only been in town a week and not sure how likely that would be in the city? Do you know of any instances of poison ivy or hopefully of anything that looks similar but is not?

Thanks!

Lyn

Note of webmaster: Lyn,
That's too bad. I haven't heard any person suffered from poison ivy. It is not so common in Matsumoto and it seems to grow in forests, not downtown.
I hope the grass your ran into is not poisonous.

Sorry Wrong tape...xD Shonandai is in kanagawa

Note of webmaster: There is no direct bus line from Matsumoto to Shonandai or Kanagawa. You can ride a bus to Shinjuku (http://www.alpico.co.jp/access/express/matsumoto_shinjuku/) and transfer to Odakyu Railway (one more transfer at Sagami-Ōno) to Shonandai.
