Daio Wasabi Nojo 大王ワサビ農場

Daio Wasabi Farm is Japan’s largest wasabi farm covering 15 hectares. It's natural water springs 120,000t per day that is to enable their annual yield of 150t of wasabi. It is located in Hotaka, Azumino, 32km north from the center of Matsumoto. It was established in 1915 and is a popular tourist spot due to its beautiful watermills and for the magnificent view of the Alps. Its restaurants offer not only the popular soba noodles along with freshly picked wasabi, but also wasabi-flavored ice cream and lots of other wasabi-themed products.

Access ・By train: Take O'ito line to Hotaka (30min-ride), then taxi (10min to the farm). Rental bikes are also available in front of Hotaka st. for Y200/hour.
・By automobile: Take Rt19→get off & turn left at Tazawa t-junction →turn right at Toyoshina IC & go straight along with Rt310 →turn right at the intersection ‘Shigeyanagi’→ just go straight forward till you find the farm. All of this will take you approx 25 min.

About Wasabi & how to eat

It is an indigenous herb of Japan and mainly cultivated in cool plateau regions where the spring water is under neutral conditions. The temperature of the water of Daio Wasabi Farm is kept 13℃ all year. Wasabi root is often grated and eaten as a spice. It provides excellent mild flavor to Japanese cuisine. Its flowers, leaves, and stems are eaten in various styles such as tempura, boiled with soy sauce and sugar, cooked with rice, etc. Why not come & visit and taste the authentic flavor?
