Hotel’s Convenience with a Ryokan’s Heart
Once a traditional Japanese Inn (ryokan), in 1990, Ikedaya was remodeled into a more modern hotel. The building itself is unmistakably a hotel, but it hasn’t forgotten its roots. The staff is attentive and considerate of the guest’s needs, much like the more traditional ryokan.
Mr. Kakimoto who has been around the hotel since a kid and now works the front desk enjoys the relationship he has with the guests, especially the ones that keep returning year after year. He recounted a recent conversation he had with a guest who frequents the hotel often. The guest noted to Mr. Kakimoto, “It’s hard to believe how grown up you are. I still remember you as a baseball capped little boy.” Mr. Kakimoto and the rest of the staff pride themselves on being able to speak with guests in such a friendly way. It may be a hotel’s body, but the heart remains that of a ryokan.
Catering to the Guests' Needs
The staff at Hotel Ikedaya understand the guests' busy schedule and work to ensure all the guests’ needs are met. Mr. Kakimoto can remember guests who stayed at the hotel only a few times. Even after checkout, arrangements can be made to leave your car in hotel parking and even wear a yukata (cotton kimono) out for a day of sightseeing.A message from the owners
